Principal's Message

Welcome to the 2026-27 School Year at Mingus Union High School!

With students back on campus 7/30 (7/29 for 9th grade) we are looking forward to another year at MUHS. At Mingus, we strive to create a pathway for success for each and every one of our students during their high school experience and beyond.
Education is a powerful tool that opens doors to new opportunities, cultivates critical thinking, and inspires a lifelong love of learning. At Mingus Union, we are committed to providing a high-quality education that empowers our students to reach their full potential. Our dedicated teachers and staff work tirelessly to create a nurturing and
challenging environment where students can thrive. We are grateful for their unwavering commitment to our students' success.
Preparing students for life beyond high school is the primary goal at Mingus Union. Whether your child plans to attend college, trade school, or enter the workforce, we offer comprehensive college and career readiness programs designed to equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to achieve their dreams.
Our Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs offer students hands-on experience and practical skills in various fields including Agriculture, Auto, Business Management, Sports Medicine, Stagecraft, & Welding. These programs not only prepare students for immediate employment but also provide a strong foundation for further education and career advancement. Additionally, our school partner with VACTE which offers programs in Construction, Cosmetology, Educational Professions, Firefighting, Law Enforcement, & HVAC.
Dual Enrollment (DE), Advanced Placement (AP), honors courses, CLEP testing, and our Yavapai Early College program are all integral parts of our advanced academic offerings. Our Dual Enrollment and Yavapai Early College partnerships with Yavapai College allow our students to experience college-level coursework. These programs and CLEP mean many of our students have already earned significant college credits when they graduate. AP and honors courses challenge our students and prepare them for the rigor of college academics. They also provide an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their college applications and develop the skills necessary for success in higher education.
In addition to our course offerings, our school offers dozens of clubs that cater to a wide range of interests. From academic clubs to specific interests, there is something for everyone. Participation in these activities helps students develop leadership skills, build lasting friendships, and explore new interests.
Our athletic, fine arts, music, and theatre programs provide students with opportunities to showcase their talents and pursue their passions. These programs are a source of pride for our students, school, and community.
Staying connected and informed is crucial for success. We encourage all parents and students to utilize the PowerSchool app to access grades & attendance records and our school website, www.mingusunion.com, for finding the bell schedule, school calendar, and student handbook. Our school also has a SITE Council, meeting every 3rd Tuesday of the month at 5pm. This is a great opportunity for parents to stay involved in our school.
We look forward to a fantastic school year filled with achievements, growth, and memorable experiences. Together, let's make 2026-2027 a year to remember at Mingus Union High School. Thank you for being part of our school community, and we can't wait to see what we will accomplish together.
Sincerely,

David D. Beery
